Handmade Shaving Suribachi Bowl
Handmade by me in my workshop in Warwickshire, England
Steve Woodhead Studio Pottery – signed SW
I have been making handmade shaving pots for around 10 years now. My original designs were developed with the help of shavers from around the world. Since then, further refinements have been made making them some of the best shaving pots in the world.
I throw each shaving bowl individually on the potter’s wheel, they are not industrially slip cast -see image of me in the workshop. Whilst each item starts with the same weight of clay they do differ slightly in height and width which adds to the individuality of the piece.
This suribachi shaving bowl incorporates a series of fine lines, giving excellent purchase on the shaving brush when creating a soapy lather. This bowl is designed to be held by the base foot foot ring.
You can happily pour boiling water into your shaving bowl, as well as re-heat it in the microwave if you want.
They are made from my standard stoneware clay which I make my mugs and ovenware dishes from. All my work is dishwasher friendly, and mugs of mine have rattled around our dishwasher for the past 5 years without incidence.
