Hand made crafted Suribachi Shaving Bowl

Clear

Suribachi shaving bowl, handmade by me in my workshop in Warwickshire, England.  Steve Woodhead Studio Pottery – signed SW.
For over 10 years I have made a range of handmade shaving bowls and scuttle bowls.  The original wet shaving suribachi shaving bowl designs were developed with the help of shavers from around the world. Since then, further refinements have been made making them some of the best shaving scuttle bowls in the world.

Making process

Firstly, I throw each suribachi shaving bowl individually on the potter’s wheel.  Just to clarify they are not industrially slip cast. Whilst each item starts with the same weight of clay they do differ slightly in height and width which adds to the individuality of the piece.

This suribachi shaving bowl incorporates a series of fine lines, giving excellent purchase on the shaving brush when creating a soapy lather. To enhance this experience, the suribachi bowl is left unglazed resulting a great surface to build up a lather.  This bowl is designed to be held by the base foot foot ring.

Glazing

The shaving bowl is initially fired in the kiln to 1000C before being glazed.

All my work is dishwasher friendly, and my domestic ware has rattled around our dishwasher for the past 10 years without incidence.

Please note that I post at COST in a good box with plenty of bubble wrap.
