This is one of several styles of wet shaving mug/bowl that I handmake in my pottery workshop. I currently make a :
Medium #1 with a lather bowl of approx 3.5"
Large #2 with a lather bowl of approx 4"
Big #2++ with a lather bowl of approx 5"
Mega #3" with a lather bowl of approx 6.5"
Each piece is made on the potters wheel, whilst each item starts with the same weight of clay they do differ slightly in height and width which adds to the individuality of the piece. The decoration comprises of several glazes which run and flow over each other in the kiln creating a unique and individual decoration.
The bowl incorporates throwing rings, with a deep spiral in the base, giving good purchase on the shaving brush when creating a soapy lather - see above image. You can happily pour boiling water into your scuttle, as well as re-heat in to boiling point in the microwave if you want. They are made from my standard stoneware clay which I make my mugs and ovenware dishes from. Feedback from shavers indicates that the scuttle keeps the lather hot for at least 10 minutes.
All my work is dishwasher friendly, and mugs of mine have rattled arround our dishwasher for the past 5 years without incidence.
